6 Places to Visit in Dalhousie
Dalhousie is a paradise place in Himachal which takes you in another world, where nature could be explored at its best! There are beautiful peaks, gorgeous valleys, amazing Ghats and lovely lakes. 1. Daikund Peak
Have you ever heard of a singing hill? If no, then visit this peak which is one of the most beautiful and the highest hill in Dalhousie. The breeze makes a musical sound from here and hence is called the singing hill. It gets maximum snowfall during winters. You have an option to go up to the hill either in motor or via trek. You will find beauty in the form of forest, Deodar trees, colorful flowers and beautiful valleys. Phoolan Devi Temple is one of the attractions here. Also there is an air force base nearby.
2. Chamera Lake
It is an artificial lake which was developed as Chamera Dam’s reservoir. The latter is a hydroelectricity project situated around 15-km distance from Dalhousie. A major source of water in the nearby villages, it is continuously fed by the waters from Ravi river. Green trees and exquisite valleys surround this lake. Many sports activities are available here due to which tourists throng in high number. The most unique feature of the region around is the fluctuating temperature in day and night. While the night temperature rises up to 35 degrees Celsius during the day, it drops to a minimum of 18 degrees Celsius in night. Boating and fishing can be the interesting activities here.
3. Jandhri Ghat
A palace in a forest! Doesn’t it surprise a lot? But yes there is a European Palace within the pine forests near Gandhi Ghat which is colonial styled and double-storeyed structure. This magnanimous palace was built by Raja Gopal Singh in 1870-71. The Gandhi Ghat is surrounded by deodar and pine trees and is just 2 kilometers away from Dalhousie. This is one of the best popular places for picnic with your family. You could hear the gurgling noise of water streams amidst the mountains. Also you can admire the colonial-style palace housing antique painting and beautiful artefacts.
4. Bara Pathar Temple
You should visit Dalhousie in July and in the same month you should visit Bara Pathar Temple which witnesses a grand festival in honour of Bhulwni Mata. This temple is 4 km from the town center and is situated in village Aha. You could experience the bliss of beautiful scenery and religious aura. Apart from the religious aura, the temple also offers scenic views.
5. Kala Top
If you want to enjoy a grand view of beautiful landscape around, you should visit this place which speaks of field and forest, hills and hillocks, smoothness and ruggedness all together and keeps expanding to touch the borders of Jammu and Kashmir where it meets its sister hills which exist in the form of snow-clad mountains. This place falls under a wildlife sanctuary called as Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary.
The spot commands a beautiful and grand panoramic view of the surrounding landscape and eye travels wide over hill and dale, field and forest, smooth and ruggedness, till in the direction of Jammu and Kashmir, it meets a horizon of snow peaks. Kalatop means a ‘black cap’ in Chambiali dialect. There is a beautiful Forest Rest House which also has a chowkidar residence situated amidst the thick forest. The place comes under a Wild life sanctuary known as Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary.
6. Khajjiar
There are saucer shaped meadows surrounded by Deodar trees and there is a lake in the center which makes it get branded as Mini Switzerland of India. It is situated 20 Kms from Hotel Mount View. A 500-year-old Wooden Nag Temple situated near the Lake is a must-visit temple. There is a thick forest of the Kalatop Khajjiar sanctuary which surrounds the soft green grass.
