Mahabalipuram Temple In India & Temple of Mahabalipuram India

to Mahabalipuram Temple in Tamilnadu - Mahabalipuram,
also known as Mamallapuram is one of the much visited places in south India.
The port city of South India is located at a distance of 60 kms from the
capital city of Chennai. The site is also known as the "Seven Pagodas",
six of which are now submerged in the sea and the present Shore Temple
showcases the excellence of the Dravidian style of architecture. This town
was also one of the important port cities during the reign of the Pallavas.
Built between 5th and 8th centuries, the Temple of Mahabalipuram India are the
earliest examples of South Indian temple architecture. The Shore Temple to
the east and the Panch Rath or Five Chariot Temple in the south along with
several cave temples are prime tourist attractions here. The temple city has
the privilege of being a World Heritage Site as well.
Shore Temple
Built in the 7th century by the king Rajsimha, the beautiful Shore Temple is
a two towered structure constituting two temples; one facing east and one
west. The one who faces east is dedicated to Lord Shiva with a Shiva Linga
and the other one is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, with a 2.5 m carved granite
statue of Lord Vishnu facing the east. The outer walls of the temples are
carved with images of Lord Vishnu. It has been included in the world
heritage project.
Panch Rath Temple
Located at the southern end of Mahabalipuram, this group of five temples
known as Panch Rath or the five chariots are other major attractions in
Mahaballipuram. These are unfinished monolithic temples carved from a large
single granite stone and represent five chariots of the Pandavas(the heroes
of the epic Mahabharata). The five temples are dedicated to five Pandava
brothers and their wife Draupadi.
Sthala Sayana Perumal Temple
Located in the centre of the town, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu
with a tall gopuram(entrance tower). Its construction was started during
Pallava rule, later expanded by the Vijayanagar rulers.
Festivals & Celebrations - Mahabalipuram Temple in Tamilnadu
Visit to Mahabalipuram Temple, the Temple of Mahabalipuram India are also known for their annual festivals.
Most important of them is the annual Dance Festival held in the month of
January and February. This month-long dance festival attracts dance artists
from all over India to perform their dance skills. The highlights of this
festival are popular dance forms including the Bharatha Natyam, Kathakali,
Kuchipudi. Besides, tribal dance forms are also a huge draw for tourists.
Classical and traditional music is a fascinating part of the festival.
