Chennai
city is situated on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal and is the capital
of state of Tamil Nadu. Madras, the earlier name of this cosmopolitan
metropolis was baptized to Chennai in 1996. It is the fourth largest city in
India and is regarded as the gateway to the south. The British influence

Marina Beach - It is one of the world's longest beaches and is the pride

Lord Krishna is situated at Triplicane High Road. The temple was built by
the Pallavas in the 8th century and subsequently renovated by the Vijaynagar
Kings in the 16th century.
» Fort St. George - It is a historical landmark in
Chennai. It was built by Francis Day and Andrew Cogan, the founding fathers
of Chennai and officials of the British East India Company. It was the first
British settlement and was under French occupation for a brief time.

hot and humid. In the months of September-December, the city receives heavy

How to reach
Chennai has rail, road and air links to all parts of India. It has two
airports namely the Anna International Airport and the Kamaraj National
Airport at Meenambakkam about 20 km from the city. The city is easy enough
to access with its two rail terminals- Chennai Central for broad gauge
trains to Delhi, Calcutta, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Egmore railhead for metre
gauge trains to all parts of Tamil Nadu. It is also connected by good roads
with all important places in Tamil Nadu and India.

Several state-run and private emporia in Chennai sell sarees, jewellery,
handwoven fabrics and leather items. Handicrafts of different kinds such as
rose wood, ivory, bronze, sandal-wood and silver are also available.
